10 Healthy Ways to Relax and Unwind

No matter what you do or who you are stress is a part of life. Self-care is important to help you recharge after long stressful days working, taking care of kids, or both.

Why is it important to relax?

Relaxation helps encourage a healthy mind and body. With the buildup of stress tension can cause all sort of medical complications including tension headaches, digestive problems, and more.

Here are some great ways to help you relax and unwind, relieving stress and tension:

Journaling is a wonderful way to get out your emotions, anger, sadness, fears, without perhaps telling someone in person. It can be hard to explain to someone directly how they may have hurt you but journaling allows you to get those hurt feelings out so you can move on from the pain. Here are some great journal prompts.

Look at the day’s wins

It can be easy to look at all the negative that may have happened any given day. Not everything will go well. Not everything will go smoothly but was it all bad? What is a success? Count all of your wins for the day and remember the positive moments.

Get clear what you need to do

There are so many things to do. Personally, as a work at home mom, the list each day is extensive. Without a list and looking at priorities it would be more overwhelming. Free printable to do list.

Create a bedtime ritual

Creating a bedtime ritual is mentioned over and over again when it comes to parenting. Having your kids on a bedtime ritual helps them start to relax at the end of the day and helps them sleep throughout the night. The perks of a bedtime ritual are the same for you. Find a ritual that relaxes you and helps you fall asleep soundly at a reasonable time. Here’s a wonderful post about evening habits.

Don’t take everything seriously. Get outside. Play. Do something fun for you.

Take a catnap

Taking a quick catnap can help refresh you to continue the day. Catch up on a little bit of lost sleep throughout the night.

Get some sun

The winter months can be hard on many, especially if you have Seasonal Affective Disorder. The sun with limited exposure can have many health benefits including stronger bones, better sleep, improved mood, and a healthier immune system. If you’re feeling down, especially after a long day inside or under a cloudy sky, try to find a way to get out in the sun for a short period.

Spend time alone

Spending time alone after long days around people can be a great way to recharge for the next day. It’ll give you time to think, explore your interests, boost creativity, improve mental health, boost self-esteem, and increase emotional intelligence.

Talk to a friend

Having trusted friends can help you improve your help and self-esteem. Being able to talk to someone can help you gain perspective on a situation and release tension.

Do you love to write? Do you love to have a creative outlet? Blogging can be a great way to be creative, write based off situations you have arising on a daily basis, and work through stressful situations.

How do you like to relax and unwind at the end of the day?
